Your employer may have to pay for your weight loss surgery.
In a surprise court ruling in Indiana, the court decided a pizza shop must pay for an overweight employee’s weight loss surgery.
The employee weighed 340 pounds at the time he was injured after being struck in the back by a freezer door in March, 2007.
The pizza shop agreed to pay for his back surgery, but doctors stated the back surgery would not be successful unless the patient had weight loss surgery first.
The pizza shop refused to pay for the weight loss surgery and the case went to the court.
This decision could have far reaching implications because many smaller business may be reluctant to hire overweight employees in the future.
